The School of Humanities and Social Sciences
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences was established by combining departments of Foreign Languages, Radio and TV Broadcasting and Law in December, 2005. Through optimizing undergraduate programs, developing quality undergraduate courses and continuously improving the quality of undergraduate education, this school builds an undergraduate education system based on general education and integrating general education with disciplinary specialization to help students to become highly-competent, high-level, diversified and creative talents.
The school consists of two master degree sectors of Philosophy and Foreign Languages Literature and three departments of English, Chinese and Law for bachelors.
The faculty staff comprises two hundred and fourteen personnel of seven professors, fifty-seven deputy-professors, one hundred and thirty-nine lecturers, in which there are thirty-five doctor degree holders and twelve doctor degree appliers. The teaching staff holds titles of twelve Excellent lecturers, eight directors(or vice directors of national or provincial academic associations), and twelve professional lawyers. More than forty personnel have been abroad to well-known universities and colleges of the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Russia, Holland, Australia and Poland to study and visit.
The library stores books of literature and philosophy for more than one hundred thousand academic magazines of two hundred species. With an ever-improving support system for teaching and research, and advanced hardware facilities, the school provides a digital network and multimedia foreign language teaching with terminal computers linked to the internet. Moreover, in accordance with the research needs of faculty members, the school has constructed an E-Government Laboratory,Simultaneous Interpretation Laboratory and other research laboratories. Technology Laboratory of Physical Evidence, E-Government Laboratory, Simultaneous Interpretation Laboratory, Non-linear Editing Workstation are applying for classes and training.
Our highly respected faculty has achieved national and international reputations for academic success in their fields. In recent years, the teaching staff has published forty academic books and more than four hundred intellectual papers, among which about two hundred show up in key erudite magazines of Foreign Languages, Chinese Translators Journal, Journal of Chinese Communist Party, Theoretical Exploration, Editorial Friend, Youth Journalist of languages, philosophy, and news broadcasting; they have afforded about one hundred projects, hosted and attended more than forty international or national academic conventions, and have fame and reputations in the field of translation theories, education, philosophy and law.
Branches
1. English Major
For the past few years, this major has made significant achievement and strategic breakthrough in terms of its internationalization, while facing considerable challenges and opportunities. This major cultivates talented people of English who boast high humanistic quality, proficient English language skills, solid professional knowledge of English language and literature and other related professional knowledge, and can skillfully use English and native language in foreign affairs, education, economy and trade, culture, science and technology and other departments for foreign affairs, translation, education, management, research and other work.
Students mainly learn the basics of English language and literature, and also learn major English-speaking countries' literature, history, philosophy, politics, economy, arts, law and other humanities and social science knowledge, accept systematic and scientific training of basic skills in English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation, so as to master the verbal and written communication skills, the ability of intercultural communication with foreigners, the ability to use computer and network technology constantly to acquire knowledge, the comprehensive ability of using professional knowledge to analyze and solve problem, creative thinking ability and scientific research ability.

2. Radio and TV Broadcasting Major
This major is offered based on the internal laws of journalism and communication, focusing on the practical needs and future prospects of radio and television industry. Professional and applied talents are expected to be cultivated here. With sound political literacy, extensive cultural knowledge, keen social observation, broad international vision and proficient skills, they would be capable of engaging in related position, like news interview, report, shooting, editing, hosting, planning, management and other work in the radio and television organizations as well as other media, enterprises and institutions. Students of this major mainly study the basic theories and knowledge of journalism, communication, receive the basic training of radio and television news collecting, writing, editing and rating, and master the basic ability of radio and television work.

Teaching Facilities
As a Department with a longstanding commitment to combining theory and practice, the school thinks it's important to create an environment where critical thinking and creative development work together.
The English major has 21 laboratories, 22 off-campus practice bases for college students. The school is well-equipped with a multimedia network, digital cable network, library literature information resources network, and modern distance learning education web.
The major of Radio and Television now has 1 nonlinear editing laboratory and 1 computer room, with the total value of experimental equipment of about 1 million Yuan. The school Radio Station, is one of the students practice bases on campus. After more than 16 years of development, it has developed into an integrated media covering radio, video, network and new media, mainly focus on radio. In addition to campus media such as the campus radio station and television station, the school also signs internship agreements with a number of media outlets, so that students can improve their practical skills in a real media working environment.

There are one thousand five hundred students of undergraduates and graduates in this college. They are generally praised by employers for their solid professional knowledge, outstanding practical ability, down-to-earth attitude and hard work.
English Major:
Graduates’ jobs are related to foreign affairs, economy and trade, culture, press and publication, education, scientific research, art, law, tourism and other departments. Many outstanding graduates are recommended for further studies in domestic first-class universities every year. In recent years, more than 30% of the students choose to take the postgraduate entrance examination.
Radio and TV Broadcasting:
Graduates can work in radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, news websites and other news outlets at all levels in China. Or they can be engaged in propaganda, secretarial, public relations work in national propaganda management departments, enterprises and institutions. They may also choose to teach or carry out scientific research in schools and colleges. In recent years, the enrollment rate of postgraduate entrance examination in radio and television major is relatively high. The school also attaches great importance on global engagement and has built cooperation with world top universities. Many students have entered universities at home and abroad for further studies, including the University of Westminster in the UK, New York University in the US, Ewha Woman’s University in ROK, Renmin University of China, Communication University of China, Wuhan University.

1. "文"-A Chinese character of "Literature" and "铎"-Shape of a large ancient bell manifest field of academic research of the college in the design of the logo.
2. "铎"-a large ancient bell. According to Confucius, in ancient China of more than two thousand and five years ago, military officers generally were called up with giant metal bell and officials were met up with great wood bell. So the big bell here implies that "a grand wood bell alerts the society" in depth to arouse the society and communities to widespread the Chinese excellence of culture. "文" not only suggests development essence of the college, but also approves to be open-minded, working-hard, and for further exploration.
